How the New York City Department of Health made a mild measles outbreak worse
Last week the Mayor of New York City and two of his Hench people from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene held a press conference in which martial law was declared in several Brooklyn Zip Codes due to an "ongoing" Measles outbreak. The emergency declaration orders everyone in those zip codes Men, Women,Children, and presumably everyone in between,(this is New York City after all) to be vaccinated against Measles or be able to demonstrate proof of prior vaccination or be able to provide proof of blood titer levels demonstrating anti body levels consistent with immunity.
The reason given was an ongoing outbreak which has climbed to 285 cases. Not a single representative from the media asked how many active cases of Measles are currently ongoing. The number 285 is a tally of total cases since October. This is beyond misinformation, it is disinformation.
A similar declaration by Rockland county executive Ed Day was thrown out by a Judge. Ed Day had declared that due to 157 cases in Rockland and a total of 442 cases in New York state when adding the Brooklyn numbers in, that we have a "deadly" emergency on our hands. Once again a sly disinformation tactic as these numbers are all cumulative from October, a seven month time period. It emerged in court that there were only three active cases of Measles in Rockland at the time of Ed Day's phony declaration.
It seems that the NYC DOH bureaucrats are particularly perturbed by rumors of parents holding measles parties and thereby perpetuating the ongoing outbreak. What the Mayor and the DOH goons failed to discuss was why parents would be motivated to have measles parties. It turns out this is all directly a result of the previous order by NYC DOH that expelled thousands of healthy unexposed unvaccinated children from Private Religious Orthodox Jewish Schools in Brooklyn. With their kids thrown out of school, parents opposed to Vaccination on religious or scientific grounds found themselves between a rock and hard place. In an attempt to get evidence of antibody immunity from titer checks without submitting to the vaccine they began holding Measles parties. So Mr Mayor you and the petty tyrants running the DOH have only yourselves to blame for this mess. Had you not thrown all those healthy unexposed kids out of school, there never would have been any measles parties and the outbreak would have ended months ago.
