Fire Exit Safety Codes, Vaccination Compliance, and the Excommunication of Orthodox Jewish Non Vaccinators
A fellow vaccine choice rights activist in Brooklyn, New York alerted me to a dangerous situation in a storefront synagogue in Brooklyn. The Synagogue which has up to 100 people at a typical service has several severe fire safety code violations. Firstly there is no sign posted from the building or fire department with the maximum allowed occupancy of the premises. Secondly all of the exit pathways are blocked by tables and chairs. Thirdly several fire exit signs lead to a locked door with no panic bar, in front of which is a roll down security gate. This particular synagogue is affiliated with a prominent Yeshiva community that has declared non vaccinating parents and children to be Personae Non Gratae, in essence putting them into "Cherem" - religious excommunication.
Hypocritical??? Quite!!!!
Similarly we have witnessed recent news print advertisements from the Hatzolah volunteer ambulance corporation in partnership with the New York City Department of Health.The NYC DOH wades into the constitutionally murky waters of violating the establishment clause by promoting a particular religious interpretation of two biblical commandments.1."Thou shalt not stand idly by while your brothers blood is shed". 2."Watch exceedingly carefully your lives and health".
NYC DOH has apparently given money to the 501c3 nonprofit Hatzolah org. to promote the interpretation of these two verses as referring to people who are not vaccinated against Measles.
That is to say, being unvaccinated makes you dangerous and is equivalent to willfully violating the above mentioned biblical verses.
Safety and the precautionary principle are indeed central aspects of normative Judaic religious practice. That is why in the absence of a single comprehensive short term or long term safety study comparing all health outcomes and mortality between a statistically significant population of vaccinated and fully unvaccinated children and adults, Vaccination is prohibited by Jewish religious law according to prominent and well known Rabbinic authorities.
It is ironic that those who are promoting the fanatical fear of unvaccinated children, are not concerned at all with the imminent danger of fire safety code violations.
Perhaps Rabbis that allow dangerous fire safety code violations in their synagogues, should be excommunicated as well.
